Metal bedsteads, whether double or single, introduce the wow factor to your bedroom.
If you want to make a style statement, a double metal bedstead is the way to do it. What’s more, double metal bedsteads offer really good value for money; prices for metal bedsteads tend to be a little lower than for wooden or leather look alternatives. There’s no denying metal bedsteads have real impact, and buying a double gets you even more impact as well as more comfort, too, so maybe that’s the size to choose. With Furniture Expressions, you’ll find gorgeous looks at great prices.
how does a bedstead work with a mattress?
Bedsteads work by providing a supportive platform to a mattress. The base of single and double size bedsteads is usually made of metal or wood. Metal can either come in the form of a mesh, recommended for lighter people such as children, or for occasional use; or slats. Wooden bases can either be a solid platform, as in a theme bed for children, or again as slats. Traditional wooden slats are found on quality double bedsteads, even those with a metal or leather-look frame, and the very best quality are sprung. Metal slats are found on the single sizes only of our metal bedstead frames, not the double.
Looking at slatted bases, the gap between them is important: you need the slats fairly close together to support a large, heavy mattress. Wide slats are also helpful in this. If the bedstead is described as sprung slatted, this is the very best, as it complements the way your mattress works.
what about storage?
Metal bedsteads in double and single sizes alike don’t have built-in storage, although they do provide lots of space beneath for storing things in your own boxes or bags.
widths and lengths
All our bedsteads, metal, wooden and leather-look alike, come in various sizes, from single and standard double to superking. For taller people, the important thing is the length. This is always 190cm/6’3” for double bedsteads, but increases to 200cm/6’6” for king size (5’/150cm). The expert thinking on beds as advocated by the National Bed Federation is to buy the biggest you possibly can. The more room you have to move around while you sleep, the more comfortable you will feel and the better quality sleep you will enjoy. You’ll see the results of that next morning! This applies whether the bed is for a single sleeper or for two. For two people looking at a double metal bedstead, if they have the space and can afford a little extra they should consider a king size bedstead, 5’/150cm wide. All our metal bedsteads are offered in kingsize, as well as standard double (4’6”/135cm) and standard single (3’/90cm). We also have a metal double bedstead available in an alternative width, the 4’/120cm size. This model is the Birch. There aren’t very many bedsteads of this size in the marketplace, and it is a very useful choice, both for a single sleeper who sensibly wants something a little bigger than a standard single but doesn’t want to go to the expense of a standard double, or for a slimline couple who don’t have space for standard double metal bedstead! Whatever your choice, you’re sure to love the adorable, affordable metal bedsteads at Furniture Expressions.
